We are delighted that Felicity has joined our BRIT Ambassador family.
Felicity is a GB Bobsleigh Athlete who is on the Olympic Pathway Programme for Beijing in 2022 and Milan in 2026.
“As a student at Cardiff University for the past five years, I am aware that many students face mental health challenges. The Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (OPN) has been monitoring the social impact of COVID-19 and has found that young people are more likely than other age groups to report that lockdown has made their mental health worse. Young adult mental health was already a concern in the UK before COVID-19. We need to do all we can to ensure young adults receive professional and timely support to avoid them suffering from long-term mental health difficulties.
Charities have a vital role to play in supporting young adult mental health. The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) are setting an example as a collaborative charity who are bringing an innovative and exciting approach to supporting young adult mental health throughout the UK; they are partnering with, championing and supporting other charities to ensure there is a joint approach to raising both funds and awareness. Their BRIT 2021 Challenge is an inspiring opportunity to improve the mental health and fitness of millions of students and young adults.
The BRIT 2021 Challenge is enabling students and young adults to unite wherever they are (at home or on campus) and take part in a feel-good challenge to raise vital funds for charities who support young adult mental health, all while improving mental health and fitness. Every UK university, college and students’ union have been invited to enter teams in the BRIT 2021 Challenge and encourage their students and staff to participate.
I am delighted to be joining the BRIT Ambassador family and look forward to encouraging and supporting students at Cardiff University and the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation as they take on the BRIT 2021 Challenge. I hope Cardiff University can help to encourage every Welsh university and college to join them and enter teams”.
Felicity was educated at King’s High School, Warwick, and will graduate from Cardiff University Medical School in 2021.
Prior to beginning her bobsleigh career, Felicity competed in the heptathlon and javelin for Birchfield Harriers and represented Wales at junior level in the Javelin on numerous occasions.
Felicity was then introduced to bobsleigh in October 2018, at the push track at the University of Bath.
She made her competitive debut in November 2019, when she finished 11th in the monobob event in Lillehammer and went on to compete a further three times throughout the 2019/20 campaign.
Felicity produced a personal best of 8th in La Plagne in March 2020 before bringing her season to a close and switching to the women’s 2-man bobsleigh at a week-long bob school in La Plagne. In 2020, she competed on the Europa Cup circuit in the 2-man event, achieving a top 8 finish in Igls, Austria.
Felicity is on the Olympic Pathway Programme for Milan 2026.
