Special relationship forged between the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and the British Inspiration Trust
In addition to Dame Kelly supporting BRIT and championing the annual BRIT Challenge, we are delighted to have forged a special relationship with Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
As a collaborative charity, BRIT are forging partnerships and special relationships with charities who are delivering vital support to young adults and students with physical and/or mental health challenges.
Dame Kelly Holmes Trust is a national youth development charity which supports 11-25 year-olds who are harder to engage in both education and in the community. Their vision is that all young people have an equal opportunity to be the best version of themselves. The Trust works with world class athletes, who are trained up to use their amazing experience from the world of sport to give young people a starting block in life that they may not otherwise have. Their programmes are designed to improve their wellbeing, help them build healthy relationships and unlock the confidence, self-esteem and resilience needed to achieve in education, work and life.
Dame Kelly wanted to create a legacy from her athletics career that would benefit young people, believing every child needs a hero – someone to look up to and be inspired by. Sometimes, through no fault of their own, young people don’t have a role model, or the help they really need to be the best they can be. She can recall her PE teacher at school, who told her she was good at running. She believes it can take just one person to change the course of a young person’s life. That’s why, on the eve of the Beijing 2008 Olympics, she founded Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. After eight successful years as Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dame Kelly moved to the position of President in May 2016.
“At Dame Kelly Holmes Trust we’re delighted to forge a relationship with The British Inspiration Trust and be part of their collaborative strategy to support young people’s mental health and wellbeing across the UK. We look forward to being part of another great year for the BRIT Challenge.
Our goal as an organisation is to improve the health and wellbeing of 10,000 young people across the UK facing challenges in their everyday lives, over the next ten years. BRIT’s vision to improve young adult mental health and fitness resonates with our own vision, and we applaud them for the delivery of the annual BRIT Challenge, which is a brilliantly inclusive event, and a great way to improve physical and mental wellbeing whilst raising money for good causes.
BRIT have made the bold and inspiring decision to invite every team taking part in the BRIT Challenge to choose a second charity to raise funds for alongside BRIT, giving them the opportunity to support local, regional and national charities. We hope university and college teams will choose the Trust as their second charity to help fund our work to support young people facing disadvantage across the UK to become the best version of themselves. We wish every university and college team the very best of luck as they take on the BRIT Challenge.”

The Trust knows that world class athletes are inspirational mentors and role models. They have proved at the highest levels their leadership qualities, their positive mind-set, communications skills, achievement of goals and resilience when dealing with the highs and lows of competitive sport and life. Dame Kelly Holmes Trust harnesses these unique experiences.
Since 2008, they have trained over 400 athletes to deliver transformational programmes for over 6,000 young people. Through their expertise in designing and measuring impactful youth development programmes, their network of trusted community organisations and their training of world class athlete mentors to become world class youth workers, the Trust reaches young people facing disadvantage across the UK, and supports them to become the best version of themselves.
