The University of Bradford & University of Bradford Students' Union embrace the BRIT 2021 Challenge

We are delighted that the University of Bradford and University of Bradford Students' Union will fully embrace the BRIT 2021 Challenge and champion the opportunity for their students and staff to take part.

It was a pleasure to visit the university last year, during the 5-month tour of UK universities and colleges, as part of the BRIT 2020 Row Britannia Challenge. It was a super visit and we were sincerely grateful to Professor Shirley Congdon, Vice Chancellor of the University of Bradford, for coordinating the opportunity to spend time with student and staff representatives including;

  • Adam Tasker, Cycle for All Project Coordinator, Student’s Union

  • Zain Abdin, Sports and Wellbeing Sabbatical Officer, Student’s Union

  • Nikki Pierce, Academic Registrar and Director of Student, Academic and Information Services

  • Daniel Fawcett, Sports Centre Manager (Unique)

The University of Bradford and University of Bradford Students' Union developed a whole university approach to the 2020 Row Britannia Challenge, however COVID-19 restrictions meant that Team Bradford were unable to complete their challenge or reach their fundraising target.

We are thrilled that Team Bradford have embraced the BRIT 2021 Challenge with such enthusiasm.

“The University of Bradford was delighted to host the visit of BRIT founder, Phil Packer, as part of his 5-month tour of UK universities and colleges to promote the BRIT 2020 Row Britannia Challenge. As BRIT’s Challenges aspire to improve student, and staff, mental health and raise vital funds for charity, it is critical that the University of Bradford adopted a whole university approach and involved our students in the decision making and coordination from the outset. The BRIT Challenges fit really well with our ethos as a University.

Our Student Union Sabbatical Officers and Project Coordinators met with me and my Executive Team, Sports Centre Manager and Director of Student, Academic and Information Services to work together as Team Bradford. This ensured our students had the support of the university’s media, comms and sport facility resources to raise awareness of the challenge, increase student participation and make our fundraising efforts a success.

Our Students’ Union mapped out a comprehensive programme of activities and events and we were really excited to get started, however COVID-19 restrictions meant our students were unable to complete the BRIT 2020 Challenge and reach their fundraising target.

We will fully embrace the forthcoming BRIT 2021 Challenge as a way of continuing Team Bradford’s commitment to improving student mental health and fitness, all whilst raising vital funds for BRIT’s partner charities who support student mental health; be that on campus or at home.”

Professor Shirley Congdon

Vice Chancellor

University of Bradford

We wish every Team Bradford student and staff member the very best of luck with their BRIT 2,021 mile challenge and their fundraising target.
